Considering the key role of the earth science in economic development, it is absolutely essential to collect and present the geoscience data of Iran. National Geoscience Database of Iran according to goals and policies of Third Development Program, for improving the share of mines and mineral industry in gross national production, clearly understands and evaluates the role of systematized information and therefore the easy access to the information, prevention of reworking and time wasting are its topics.
National Geoscience Database of Iran opens its way through the collection, systematization and organization of geoscience data in an easy and instant way to supply needs of managers, administrators, domestic and foreign investors and industrial, economical and political sectors.
National Geoscience Database of Iran does data broadcasting and developing process by various tools such as Internet, LANs and intranet, CD, maps and etc. At now we are collecting information from governmental organs and companies, private companies, books, reports, papers and Internet. The collection process is based on full view background, which also involves correction of information.
It most be noted that data collection is a continuous procedure with the pictures of updating and optimized processing. Categorization, maintenance and process of data and prevention of their scattering are the principals for suitable data presentation in various ways. The main part of process involves unifying, standardizing and reporting data by structured database.
Regard these NGDIR is doing various activities. In 250K scales, all of existed geological and mineral data are collected, organized and presented in provincial format. In 100K scale different available data layers or their index with documented report is presented. Detailed section is responsible for collection and processing of exploration data. Preparing the important subjective databases such as copper, gold, ground geophysics projects, ophiolite bibliography, foreign investment, natural hazards and review from mines is other activities of NGDIR. The task of informatics group of NGDIR is designing database softwares and supporting NGDIR hardware, softwares and network.Development Document of NGDIR
Today, scientific and technologic data is the base of pecuniary and intellectual abilities of human communities. Each community that has access to more information enjoys more capability and dynamism. Parallel to the various scientific and research development plans occurring during the last decades, each year thousands of researchers are actively making attempt to systemize them. Considering the vital and fundamental role of Earth sciences in sustainable development of Iran, compilation, protection and presentation of Earth sciences data are inevitable. Therefore, NGDIR has collected a lot of data to establish an appropriate system of data presentation to planners, managers, domestic and foreign investors and other industrial, economic and political sectors of Iran since March 2002.One of the aims of mining sector is to prepare the national development program of NGDIR as an infrastructure for development. NGDIR improvement strongly depends on holding a clear strategy. It is quite clear that its strategy is to present nice services to people. Development program of NGDIR is based on present and future long-term plans. It is one of the significant tools to achieve Iran's sustainable development. At first stage, in accordance with a twenty-year plan, the Iranian government undertakes to establish the biggest database of Earth sciences in the Middle East. Then, it will be the biggest at Asia and next as worldwide level. Development document of NGDIR for a 20 year vision is comprised of 3 levels: General level, organizational level and executive level.The general level includes the general development document, the organizational level includes development document of NGDIR in different branches of earth sciences, and the executive level includes draw up of operational mechanisms. The development document has been drawn up, and would follow the following aims in order to strengthen and maintenance of life quality:
- Providing a better ground for understanding and describing the earth
- Optimization of mineral resources, environmental, civil engineering and energy management
- Reduction of the Earth's hazards
